Discussing Lying
Переглядів 190Місяць тому
Lying is a common behavior among 4-5 year olds, but it ISN’T fun for parents. Caregivers can overreact to lies, and resort to punishment, threats or harsh responses. To help them to understand lying developmentally, you can reassure parents that lying demonstrates critical thinking skills and a new understanding and interest in the difference between fantasy and reality. Instead of engaging in ...
Watching Together
Переглядів 1602 місяці тому
For young children, it’s important to talk to families about the importance of co-viewing. Here’s why: Watching together (at ANY age) allows caregivers to make screen time interactive - by asking questions, connecting images and storylines to real life, and helping children to interpret situations. This can build connection, aid attention, and help to ensure that children are engaging with cont...
Drowsy But Awake
Переглядів 3642 місяці тому
Learning to fall asleep without being rocked, fed or held is an important way that a baby practices self-regulation skills - and can help with consolidated sleep. In the exam room, try talking to parents about the unique window when babies are drowsy, but awake. This means caregivers do 90% of the soothing and then let the baby practice the last 10% of falling asleep on their own. This may invo...
Modeling Synchrony
Переглядів 1982 місяці тому
Synchrony refers to the bidirectional dance of back-and-forth communication between a caregiver and child. When families are in sync, the child or parent does something and the other responds by matching their behavior, emotional state and physical rhythm. Being attuned in this way promotes connection and relationship building. In your next visit, try modeling synchrony by matching a baby's moo...
Being Silly
Переглядів 2283 місяці тому
Medicine may be a serious business, but a little silliness can model flexibility, critical thinking and problem solving for your patients. So brush up on those improv skills and try your hand at a few silly moments in a visit soon. Here are a few ideas: 1.Make a silly mistake, like using your otoscope to check out a patient’s feet! 2. Create a silly scenario, like asking who is bigger, an eleph...
Physical Activity
Переглядів 1153 місяці тому
As we enter spring, it’s a great time to remind patients of the benefits of doing more physical activity outdoors. These include positive effects on attention, coordination, vision, and development. 3 fun suggestions to get families moving are: 1. Set a family goal around exercise. Is it a small hike, walking to and from school, or a parent-child 3K? Find a fun way to promote connection through...
Discussing Soothing Strategies
Переглядів 4194 місяці тому
It's important to help parents recognize that newborn babies cannot soothe themselves, and that there is no such thing as spoiling during the newborn period. Infants need adult help to feel safe, secure, and cared for, and to allow for healthy development. When rounding on the postpartum floors, or in your next newborn visit, try offering some soothing strategies for parents to manage expected ...
Messy Eating
Переглядів 2514 місяці тому
While developmentally appropriate, messy eating can be super frustrating for parents. Food waste and constant clean-ups may drive parents to spoon-feed their toddlers, but research shows there are important benefits in having toddlers practice feeding themselves. Suggest to parents that they consider serving smaller portions at a time, introducing utensils, and encouraging messy play elsewhere ...
Discussing Discipline in the Heat of the Moment
Переглядів 3505 місяців тому
When children are out of control, there are some immediate actions parents can take to help defuse the situation and promote self-regulation (theirs and their children's). 1. Pause and reflect - Taking a moment can give parents the pause they need to respond to their child in a thoughtful and controlled manner instead of a reactive or impulsive one. In doing so, the parent is co-regulating with...
Promoting Early Numeracy
Переглядів 1375 місяців тому
The 4 and 5 year well-child visits can be a great opportunity to promote numeracy, a key indicator in supporting academic knowledge as children grow. At your next visit, try asking: "How many cups of milk do you drink," or, "how many times a day do you brush your teeth?" These reinforce counting and number naming. "Do you drink a lot of juice, a little juice, or no juice?" This helps in making ...
Discussing Why Children Ask Questions
Переглядів 1705 місяців тому
It's normal for children to observe what is the same and what is different, and to point out differences - even in public. This can be hard for parents, and lead to anger or embarrassment. Here are 3 phrases you can try with parents in your next visit to help open up an important dialogue about perspective and understanding: "Your toddler is super curious. That is an important part of learning,...
Discussing Separation Anxiety
Переглядів 2875 місяців тому
Practicing healthy goodbyes can help ease separation anxiety, which normally begins between 8-10 months and can reappear frequently throughout childhood. Here are key tips to offer families: 1. Avoid sneaking out. Parents should give a quick and upbeat goodbye. 2. Stay calm. If parents appear upset, chances are that the baby will be too. 3. Remind their baby that they will come back, and let th...
Learning Through Play

“Sunshine time” is a time of shared warmth and joy that helps children and caregivers delight in each other, and works at any age. From our friend and colleague, Dr. Prachi Shah - a developmental-behavioral pediatric specialist at the University of Michigan - here are 4 ways to challenge your families to find 5-10 minutes a day for sunshine time with their children. - Choose toys that promote c...
Discussing Sibling Conflict
Переглядів 2226 місяців тому
By age 4 or 5, it’s easier for children to understand the thoughts and feelings of others, and how their actions may impact someone else. To help with sibling conflicts, suggest to parents that they: -Think of their goal as guiding children to eventually resolve conflicts themselves by seeing the other person’s perspective, NOT by being the referee. -Discuss how the other sibling is feeling (“W...

At first I thought this was being done on a doll until I saw the cutie moving!
She didn’t cry amazing
Idk if it’s a mother/father difference. But as a new father this is the first video on how to swaddle that actually made sense. She showed where to grab the blanket to make the corners you need. Almost every other video seemed like the person was trying to beat the world record for fastest swaddle. Thank you!
Im in the same boat, im going to be new father this november, congratulations and blessings
DALSI PAKA PROC TO DITE BUDITE NENECHATE JIM TROSKU KLIDU PROC TY DETI PORAD OTRAVUJETE 😡😡😡😡😡🌷
Watched this bc I'm trying to learn how to swaddle our newborn. I can't help but notice the baby in this video isn't throwing air punches the entire time. That must be nice 💀

Thank you so much my little Ari will be here in December
Terrible video and awful “instructor”. Do yourself a favor and skip this video. This is not the preferred method.
Wow very interesting 🤫
I love the expression of the baby. So peaceful and content ♥️
Such a cute little baby! And the infant is pretty cute too!

My grandmother told my mother to "let that baby sleep" when they brought me home from the hospital. I slept for 5 hours the first night. No one woke me up to feed me. When I got hungry I woke up and I'm a healthy adult today. BTW, my parents never had any problems getting me to go to sleep.
Tushy?!?😂😂😂
So beautiful💜

I wouldn't need advice from someone feeding the baby plastic glove. Good job!
Its nontoxic and it works like a pacifier/dummy
I think it's better than putting her finger in case finger is contaminated

What Specific Brand of Diaper is Used on the Beautiful Baby?!
They move so much in the womb I dnt get why their hands and feet need to be restricted. It just dnt feel right to me
Thank you! But I thought their legs are supposed to be free to frog to prevent hip problems?
Какое неприятное впечатление производит эта женщина, жёсткая, агрессивная, жесты злые.
Key point: A typical baby feeds for 1-3 hours, 1-3 ounces.
so useless... thanks for nothing! Please delete this.
I thought the lady was crazy gazing at a doll in the crib. Spoiler alert its a real human baby 😅….please make my son sleep
Is it safe to starve first day?
Is it safe to fold his ears like that? Will it cause him to have pointed out ears in the future?
Time and time again I see parents walking around with a sweater and their baby wearing just a short sleeve onesie 🤦🏻♀️
Yes me too
I've seen this too many times && I feel sooooo sad for babies like this !!! My hands and feet are freezing 🥶 and I'll have on boots 🥾 with a heavy duty coat however, the baby just in a onesie in the winter in 20 degree weather or less with hands and feet completely exposed with what looks like ONE layer of clothing 🤯😡😡😡😡😤 God must be sending his angels so the children don't feel pain. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 BECAUSE THIS IS SOOOOO irresponsible !!!! I have no respect for any parent who wouldn't take off there coat and wrap their child !!!! 🤯🤯🤯
Some parents aren't even trying !!!! 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤

You're so stupid!!! To use a sleeping baby for it. If you think that's right what you're doing, take a doll.😡
You're mistaken. She's teaching us normal people how to do this. The baby is just relaxed because he's under the heat lamp. Friggin internet people with no manners.
